CANOPY,
A young musical band, comes up with its first album
'Oprottyashito'
Oprottyashito,
meaning unexpected, recorded by Soundtek is the title of an audio
album to be released soon that of a young band, Canopy. Shams, Jonathan,
Chanchal, Apu and Saif, a group of five friends, all of whom are
students at various universities and colleges, found refuge to express
talents with formation of the band in the city. Since 2000, the
boys have been into constant practice and rendition of vocal performance
with rock, alternative and metal-based compositions, those of their
own
Love, passion, frustration and patriotism become major themes of
ten songs those experience inclusion in the album.
As
Shams, the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist says, Canopy intends
to present something fresh in style and above all, in musical contemporary
musical values. 'I regard the release of this album as one of the
greatest achievements in life. We hope that music lovers would appreciate
our performance and as a result, Canopy would advance ahead out
of inspiration and motivation of fans and patrons', Shams, who composes
most of the songs of Canopy, adds with a strong belief that one
day the band would be able to reach a commendable professional level.
Jonathan, who currently studies A-level under private coordination,
plays the drums, feels that both the performer and the audience
should have an equal degree of music sense, at respective levels.
'Our audience, nowadays, are becoming great listeners and now they
can analyze songs as well, are able to differentiate and distinguish
qualities of individual instruments, styles and forms of band music
which gives the music a great opportunity to flourish in this country',
Jonathan says.
'To be honest, I never had much of interest in the arena until my
interaction with some of the young men who are seriously into band
music in Bangladesh', says Apu, bassist of Canopy. As he further
reveals, his biggest idols have been John Myung of Dream Theater
and Steve Dorris of Iron Maiden.
Saif, lead guitarist of Canopy and a student of AMBAN, also feels
great about the success of his band in bring out an album. 'I am
simply in love with the sort of music we are into and I request
all to love music and help us carry the performing art into a higher
and better status in Bangladesh'.
Chanchal, who plays keyboard for the band, seems a bit more witty
than others and more straight-forward in expressing his thoughts
and perception on the aim and success of Canopy. 'Please buy our
cassette and help us attain maximum inspiration which would in turn
help us move ahead in the days to come'.
A couple of 'big' concerts of Canopy during the recent past include
one at the Army Stadium last December, a charity for an ill Sohel
Rana, besides performance at the auditorium of the Russian Cultural
Center in the city. 'Nirob-ey' (In silence) and 'Bangladesh' are
two of the more crowd-pulling numbers of Canopy, as informed by
the members.
