Geeti Angon organized a musical event at Bishyo Shahitto Kendro auditorium,
Dhaka on July 14.
Bhalo Gaaner Protisrutee (Pledge for quality songs) was the slogan of this occasion. Students and fans of renowned lyricist, composer and singer Indra Mohan Rajbongshi organised this musical event.
The programme, a first for Geeti Angon, covered Bangla folk and Adhunik (modern) songs of Indra Mohan Rajbongshi. In his welcoming speech, Indra who is also the chairman of Bangladesh Lok Sangeet Porishad, said, "Geeti Angon is going to emphasise the diversity of the twelve Bangla months through cultural programmes. In this program we are presenting songs on the three Bangla months -- Baishakh, Jaistho and Ashadh. We will have similar musical events once every three months.

"The main objective of this programme is to popularise the traditional songs of our country, especially the ones that are on the verge of extinction. These songs need to be upheld. Its high time we take necessary measures to generate mass interest in these songs".
The venue was crowded with admirers of
adhunik and folk songs. Popular artiste Shammi Akhter rendered two
Adhunik songs
Tumi shesh bikele kano ele and
Photar agei jhore gelo. Akramul Islam rendered two folk songs --
Jibon nodir dui kul chaapa and
Randhinira randhe bare written and composed by Indra. Indra's students Nusrat, Zaima, Shankar, Parul, Mafiz and others presented several melodious
adhunik and folk songs. The event ended with Indra and his wife Deepti Rajbongshi's duets,
Na na tomar logey kotha, Ashadh maisha dewar jhori and a solo anti-drug song
Esho, na boli madok ke by Indra.
"Although I write and compose my own songs, I try to maintain the traditional essence of our folk music in them. At the same time I also try to blend modern instruments with traditional ones. Youngsters do listen to folk and adhunik songs that are being remade today, because they are attracted to the various kinds of instruments that are used to make the compositions more upbeat," said Indra.
