by Imtiaz Hey all you music buffs this week I bring to you a very special article - The best and worst of Bangladeshi music in 2004. So, let's not waste anymore precious time and dive right into it. Best Song -
The best song of the year is undoubtedly "Shay Je Boshe Ache" by Ornob for the Bangla drama " Off Beat." It is one of the best Bangla songs I have ever heard. Ornob is the guitarist of the popular band Bangla. I loved the song "Tui Gaan Ga" which he sung in Bangla's first album but this one is absolutely amazing- the lyrics, the acoustic guitar piece, and the back vocals- all fall into perfect place!
Best Album -
The album of the year goes to Aurthohin for "Dhrubok." The album has 14 tracks and overall the album is filled with some amazing songs. "Golpo Sheshay," "Bhabchi Boshe" and "Shagor O Ekti Chele" are amazing tracks. The songs have great music and lyrics. Hence, "Dhrubok" gets the album of the year hands down!
Worst Album -
The worst album goes to Vendetta for their album "Man Inside." The album only has English tracks, is filled with hardcore metal numbers and mindless lyrics!
Most Disappointing Song -
The most disappointing song of 2004 goes to "Prakritik" by Black from their album "Uthshober Por." I label it as disappointing because the song starts off well and goes on quite nicely until there's an English rap interlude by Mark. That totally spoiled the song. Without that rap bit the song is quite good.
Best Duet -
The best duet number funnily comes from the same source- Black's "Eka" from the album "Uthshober Por." In fact, it's the next track in the album! "Eka" is an amazing song with great vocals by Jon and Elita.
Best Male/Female Vocals -
The best male vocal of the year goes to Sumon (Bassbaba) from Aurthohin. And the best female vocal goes to Elita. Both have divine voices!
Best Band -
The band of the year goes to Aurthohin for their undying supply of great songs. Almost all of their songs have great lyrics, music and vocals. When you think they can't do any better, they prove you wrong and keep on producing amazing songs. They are a model of consistency.
Hot Tip for 2005 -
Watch out for Ajob's debut album which hopefully will be released next year. Ajob's album was supposed to come out this year but due to some technical difficulties it got delayed and hopefully will be released in 2005.
The demo of the album is superb and so my tip for 2005 would be to buy Ajob's album as soon as it hits the stores. They are the hottest prospect in the Bangladeshi underground band scene!
